Calne was alive with the sound of music on Saturday 8th April as a stellar line-up of 12 Wiltshire choirs treated audiences to a day of free performances at Calne Spring Sing.
The feel-good event organised by Calne Town Council welcomed choirs from Calne, Chippenham, Corsham, Swindon and Devizes, with Priestley Primary School the youngest choir taking part.
There was standing room only for Warminster Military Wives Choir’s lunchtime performance in the Town Hall. The choir has previously performed at the Carnegie Hall in New York and recorded a single for the national Military Wives ‘Home for Christmas’ album, which reached number two in the Classical Music Charts in 2016.
Event organiser Tracy Howell, Calne Town Council, said: “Calne Spring Sing is always a really enjoyable event, and the sun was shining for us once again this year. Thank you to all the choirs that took part, it was an amazing day.”
The choirs performed in a mix of contemporary and historic venues: Calne Town Hall, Calne Community Hub & Library, Calne Heritage Centre, The Lansdowne Strand Hotel and Calne Free Church.
Crowds gathered at the New Market Place at 3pm for the Big Sing, which brought all choirs and spectators together for a sing along to ‘Love My Life’ by Robbie Williams and ‘Perfect Day’ by Lou Reed. Audience members were given lyrics to create a spectacular end to what is becoming an extremely popular community event.
