Find that special gift and enjoy a tasty treat in Calne Heritage Quarter this Christmas with two hours free parking funded by Calne Town Council over the festive season and throughout 2017.

Located in the heart of ‘Old Calne’ and accessed from the A4, the car park is the perfect place from which to explore the historic streets and independent businesses of Calne Heritage Quarter. Castlefields Park, Calne Heritage Centre and the town’s Blue Plaque Trail are also all within a 5 minute walk from the car park.

Calne Town Councillor Robert MacNaughton said “Calne Town Council is supporting the two hours free parking to help maintain the unique character of the oldest part of the town. It is important to Calne Town Council that the boutique shops there do well, attracting visitors and residents alike, helping them to discover Calne’s Heritage.”

Following a review of parking schemes funded in 2016, Calne Town Council has recently chosen to continue to fund two hours free parking throughout 2017. Councillor MacNaughton continued “Almost three quarters of the 375 people recently surveyed agreed that the scheme has encouraged them to visit the town centre more frequently.”

The scheme aligns with on-going initiatives to raise the profile of the town. Community tourism group Calne Our Place is working on several projects to celebrate the town’s heritage and identity. Treasurer John Skinner said “Calne is extremely well-located on the A4, which has real potential to become a premier tourist route between London and Bristol. Offering two hours free parking throughout 2017 will be a great asset to encourage visitors to stop in our town.”
